Crochet Fan Lace Shawl, Wrap, Scarf Pattern

My newest Crochet Fan Lace Shawl/Scarf/Wrap Pattern is a little different from the norm in that it’s worked from the bottom up, which is fabulous when you have a limited amount of a particular yarn & you’re unsure just how far it will go – just start at the bottom & keep going until you run out of yarn.

The crochet fan lace shawl/scarf/wrap pattern works up quickly & can be worked in your choice of yarn & hook size

I used Scheepjeswol Granada 100% 8 ply cotton for the pattern photo item.

My Mum gave me 2 x 50 gram balls of this yellow & what I can only  guess to be some kind of acrylic mohair…  demanding I make something…. my first thoughts were ‘eeegads…!!’ Really? It’s so very bright & garish… &, well,.. so yellow…. nevertheless I did as I was told & to my surprise it worked up beautifully &  Mum  is super delighted… so it goes to show… you never know until you have a go….

And then, I simply had to have another go with the crochet fan lace shawl/scarf/wrap pattern this time using 4 ply Mini Mochi by Crystal Palace Yarns. Don’t you just love this yarn? Colour way, texture & workability… all of it, gorgeous…

So there you go folks.. a ‘can do’ for beginners & a quickie for the more experience… have lots of fun with this newbie

Silk & Seacell – A beautiful yarn.

Some time ago I came across this gorgeous Hand Maiden Sea Silk yarn… 70% silk – 30% Seacell – I’d never heard of yarn being made from seaweed before… intrigued & excited I had to purchase some & when my parcel arrived I wasn’t disappointed.

This yarn is so lovely that all I want to do is hold & touch. It has the most glorious sheen & was sheer pleasure to work.

So what is Seacell? This website will help explain it &, this is what Hand Maiden says & I quote “So we’ve got this new yarn for spring that I’m pretty excited about. It’s called Sea Silk, made from 70% silk, 30% seacell. I knew that the seacell is made from seaweed and that the yarn has a particularly seductive feel. (So much so that I’ve been taken to walking around my studio stroking it like a slippery mink). But when I looked into the actual process of turning the seaweed into the fibre, my brain did a bit of a back flip. This yarn has vitamins!? There is even a version with silver in it. Silver! Wow. Apparently it makes the fibre antibacterial. Silver yarn…. oh – I wonder how I would dye that…..”

Long story short…I made this gorgeous scarf using one the patterns from my, soon to be released, new book ‘Textured Crochet Lace.’

Now, the question is… do I keep it for myself or list it in my Etsy Shop… hmmmm… I’m yet to decide…

What a challenge this little number has been to put down on paper… but Yay!.. my perseverance has paid off & I’ve finally finished creating this easy to follow pattern for you to enjoy.

The Medallion Scarf is a fun, funky & distinctive crochet pattern for anyone who would like to try something different & new. I wouldn’t recommend it to an absolute beginner but anyone with average & above crochet skills will find this an interesting exercise & end up with a novel scarf that definitely has the Wow Effect!

  • The pattern includes:

  • clear, step by step, instruction stitch drawings tutorial for working the Medallion

For best results, use a large hook (6.00mm (J)) & any 8 ply yarn… plain or variegated… your choice… they all work well with this pattern… but feel free to experiment with your own choice of yarn. I hope you have lots of fun with this one…

  • For the pink scarf I used: 160 grms Bendigo Woollen Mills, Rustic 8 ply (Wineberry928)
  • For the variegated scarf I used: 150 grms Cleckheaten California 8 ply

Crochet Lace motif PDF pattern for scarves, shawls, wraps, vests & tops

The Crochet Lace Motif pattern is one of many that I (hopefully) will be posting over the next few weeks as I complete them – what I like about this one in particular is that it’s a great little exercise for learning how to join motifs as you go… the pattern isn’t too complicated & the easy to follow joining instructions will have you creating in no time… You can purchase The Crochet Lace Motif pattern from here… or if you prefer, you can also go to Ravelry,  – I hope you enjoy it…

This is a lovely crochet lace motif that works up very quickly &, once mastered, is easily committed to memory – ideal for shawls, scarves & wraps but also works well for shrugs, boleros, vests & tops. Each motif can be made separately & then sewn or crocheted together… or, you can do what I do & join motifs as you go

The size of your motif is determined by your choice yarn & hook – average size is approx 9 cm x 9 cm (3½” x 3½”) but will vary according to yarn/hook used –

Granny Square Glamour….

OK… so they’re not traditional granny squares but a collection of square crochet motifs created in a variety of natural, synthetic & metallic yarns & incorporated into this ‘Glam’ vest for the discerning woman who dares to be different & enjoys a striking pose…

Isn’t it amazing what can be done with a little imagination?
