This is the first of a number of Tea Cosies I’ve been working on these past months. I will post more over the following days as I get photos done. I love the little Budgies sitting among the Aussie flora.
Due to being rather time poor, I don’t usually take on custom orders, mainly to avoid disappoint when expectations can’t be met.
But then, I met a lovely lady at Knitfest. She was very enthusiastic about my work & asked if I’d create an Aussie Floral Tea Cosy for her. I decided to take on the challenge & I’m very happy with the result.
The Tea Cosy body crocheted with double thread hand spun yarn & embellished with wet felted & crocheted flowers & leaves.
It’s been quite an exciting couple of months of competitions for me with the ‘Alice Springs Beanie Festival’, ‘Maleny Knitfest’ & the latest being the ‘Landsborough Inaugural Tea Cosy/Beanie Challenge’ that was held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the naming of the Sunshine Coast, at the Landsborough School of Arts Memorial Hall & organised by Caroline Payne, a tireless volunteer of the Landsborough Hall & Market, (held every Saturday at the hall). This is the first year for this Tea Cosy/Beanie competition & from the encouraging response of entries it won’t be the last… hopefully, it can become a yearly event…
So… I thought it might be a bit of fun to post some pics of my own Tea Cosies (past & present) to inspire & make you smile… some will be familiar as they’ve been posted before, nevertheless, this is a little gallery for you to enjoy!
I have to confess that, over the years of working with yarn, I’ve been a bit of a Tea Cosy snob & had little inclination to create, what I thought were rather outdated items. Who would even want them?
However, after being asked to make some, winning a few of competitions, gifting some & even selling a few, I have come to realise that creating Tea Pot Cosies are as creative as anything else I could create: from lovely, traditional ones to more outlandish freeform pieces. I’ve been told that Tea cosies are not only practical but add decorative joy to any table or kitchen sideboard… & so, I stand corrected… thanks to those who put me right….
Here are some that I’ve listed in my Etsy Shop – enjoy!
Hi everyone, it’s been quite a while since my last post… time is just flying…
So, it’s that time of year again… The Alice Springs Beanie Festival… & all the excitement that it generates across Australia… I did find the theme ‘Opposites Attract’ a bit challenging this year but, as it so often happens, in a quiet moment the ideas slowly emerged… These are my 2 entries that I know have safely arrived in Alice Springs, thanks to Aussie Post’s tracking system…
I’d like to wish all contestants much success &, all those lucky enough to be at the festival, a fabulous time…
1) Fire & Flood ~ Wet Felted & beaded Beanie.
2) From Coral Reefs…to Tropical Beaches…to Forest Hinterlands ~ Hand-spun beanie, embellished with freeform crochet & wet felted motifs.
