Maleny Knitfest 2023 wrap up…

It’s hard to believe, exactly one week ago today, I was packing the van for Knitfest, fretting about whether I had everything, hadn’t forgotten anything; those of you who do these type of events will know exactly what I mean. Of course, once my trade stall was set up & all the hellos & hugs with familiar folk was done, the nerves & doubts disappeared.

Knitfest 2023, what a fabulous weekend it turned out to be with thousands of fibre enthusiasts creating a cheerful buzz over the 3 days. The variety of trade stalls delighted everyone & the workshops generated positive feelings of activity & fibre joy.

I’d like to thank everyone who attended my workshops. I hope you learnt something new & feel inspired to carry on with your crochet journey. Thank you to all the customers & well wishers. It was a pleasure meeting you all. Thank you also to everyone who voted in the competition, awarding me first place. The theme this year was ‘Wild Women’ – my entry was ‘Girls with Attitude (our future wild women)’

And, last but not least, the biggest thank you must go to Robyn Baily who attended my trade stall while I workshopped. I couldn’t have done it without you. Your cheerfulness & energy is amazing & appears to have no limits.

So, that’s it for Knitfest 2023, in my opinion, the best one ever. Rumour has it that, Debs, the industrious organiser & originator of the event may retire. The hope is that others can fill her shoes, take the reins & keep the momentum going.

And so, that’s a wrap…

Merry Christmas 2021

I’d like to thank everyone who supported me throughout 2021: class ladies, customers, family & friends… you are what makes it all worthwhile.

2021 is coming to an end &, not a moment too soon, I hear you say. I’m sure many of us are Covid weary & look forward to a fresh, new year &, with borders now open, family & friends can reunite once more. I hope everyone is faring well in this ‘Big Wet’. The rain, of course, is very welcomed after such a long dry, but my heart goes out to those experiencing floods, especially farmers who always seem to do it hard. I for one have a drenched garden, raging weeds & bedraggled chooks.

I didn’t manage an entry for the Alice Springs Beanie competition this year, but Maleny Knitfest was a wonderful success despite the Covid obstacles that almost stopped the event. Unfortunately, this was the last Knitfest due to the coordinators retiring. Sadly, the Landsborough Market is still on hold for the time being although I have heard that it will resume some time in the future. I so miss this little market, the friends I’ve made, the lovely locals who supported it &, of course, the opportunity to showcase & sell my creations.

With 2022 just around the corner I’d like to wish you a wonderful Christmas & every happiness for the New Year. Stay well, stay safe, be happy. There is so much to be grateful for… cheers Renate

Maleny Knitfest 2021 Post-op

Maleny Knitfest 2021, a great success despite the many obstacles that almost cancelled the whole event: the Covid lockdown the week before, the mandatory mask wearing & social distancing, the trade stalls & workshop presenters who had to cancel due to restrictions & distance & Saturday’s rainy weather. So, I give a huge ‘Thank you shout-out’ to everyone who turned up in droves, did the right thing & made it a fabulous event.

My 2 workshops were well attended & I trust everyone enjoyed themselves, that you’re inspired & have increased your crochet repertoire.

And, of course, the last ‘Thank You’ must go to my friend & tireless trade stall off-sider, Robyn Bailey, without whom I couldn’t have done it.

Congratulations to all the competition winners; the entries were fabulous this year. Unfortunately, I was too late taking photos but I’ll post some when I can find them. You can checkout more Knitfest action here

Finally, the following are my 2 Knitfest competition entries.

So, that’s it for Knitfest 2021. Cheers Renate

Knitfest 2021

Wonderful news… Knitfest 2021 is almost here &, all going as planned, looks like being a fabulous weekend of fibre fun for all.

Knitfest 2021 (Sat 3rd & Sun 4th July) is only weeks away. The theme ‘There’s a Dragon in my Garden, will make it a fun couple of days. I hope many of you will come & browse the many trade stalls or even participate in a workshop or two. Check out what’s happening or book a workshop here.

This year my trade stall is No 24 & I’ll have the lovely Robyn Bailey helping me while I’m workshoping. Please, don’t be shy… come & say hello.

I’ll be doing 2 workshops, both held at Knitfest Central Stage

(1) Off-set Granny Square (Sat 3rd July – 10am – 12pm)

A fabulous little stash-busting pattern. Squares measure approx 18 cm (7”) x 18 cm (7”) and are easily mastered. Create your own cot covers, knee rugs or even a bedspread.

Requirements: Participants must have good basic Crochet skills

Materials: The workshop includes yarn and pattern, in both written and graph (chart) form. Please bring your own hooks 3.5m – 5m

Cost: $45

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(2) Crochet Spirals (Sun 4th July – 2pm – 4pm)
Spirals are beautiful, centred, balanced & harmonious, yet, can be complex. The crochet spiral workshop takes away some of the mystery by taking you through the basics. You can adapt and experiment with spirals, to incorporate them into your crochet repertoire.
Requirements: Participants must have good basic Crochet skills.
Materials: includes yarn and patterns, in both written and graph (chart) form. Please bring your own hooks 3.5m – 5m
Cost: $40
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As well as trade stalls, workshops & competitions there will be coffee & food vans, so bring your friends & make it a destination & an exciting day out…

Looking forward to seeing you there – cheers Renate

2019 Maleny Knitfest Post-Op

This time last week I was madly packing for the Maleny Knitest; fretting about not forgetting anything &, hoping upon hope, that the wet & windy weather would clear & be kind for the weekend ahead.

Fortunately, I didn’t forget a thing. Sadly, the rain persisted for most of the 2 days. However, this didn’t deter the thousands of visitors that came through the doors. So, a big Thank You to everyone, from near & far, who braved the elements;  & to everyone who came & said hello. It was lovely catching with old friends & meeting so many new ladies & gents.

Maleny Knitfest is getting bigger each year confirming that all the hard work the organisers & volunteers put in is worth their ongoing effort.

There were lots of new trade stalls with tempting yarns & fibres & I must admit I couldn’t resist bringing home bundles of lovely yarns & fibres to play with.

Another big Thank You to all the ladies who attended my 6 flowers workshop. I trust you all enjoyed yourselves & that I inspired & increased your crochet repertoire somewhat.

The last Thank You must go to the lovely Robyn Bailey, my trusty trade stall off-sider, I say it, again & again; I couldn’t have done it without you… You’re a Gem!!!

Congratulations to Deb Niotaris & Jill Henderson, the raffle winners, of the 2 Crochet books I donated I hope the books give each of you many hours of happy crochet time.

The competitions had great support this year & were fabulous. The theme ‘Australiana’ View the Tree entries here  & the winners of the Best Beanie, Tea Cosy, Scarf & socks here  & you can checkout more Knitfest action on facebook here
