Hello everyone, this is a community project that I’m so excited to be participating in & thought I’d share some of what I’ve been doing so far…

Here’s a link to where it all began http://crochetcoralreef.org/about/index.php

& here’s a link to the ‘Sydney Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef’ that I also contributed to in 2009  http://sydneyreef.blogspot.com.au

The launch of ‘Spawning of the Sunshine Coast Satellite Reef’, part of the worldwide Crochet Coral Reef Project and created by the Institute for Figuring, took place at the ‘World Environment Day Festival’ on Sunday, 8th June 2014 at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

This large scale community program project will culminate in an exhibition at ‘Caloundra Regional Gallery’ from May 20 to June 28, 2015… so there’s plenty of time for anyone interested in reef awareness to participate… here’s the link to the Caloundra Regional Gallery

So… these are some examples of my efforts… I’ve used yarn from my stash, yarn that people have given to me, yarn purchased from Op shops, plastic string & old video tapes… It’s the most fun I’ve had in ages watching the pieces grow… &, I still have heaps of ideas for experimenting with these wonderful shapes & forms that are so easy to create & come to life with every stitch… Enjoy!

I’ve been Tottied…..

This is shameless promotion thanks to Noreen Crone-Findlay’s interview on her Tottie Talks Crafts blog & where you can  read more interviews of Artists who contributed to the 2010 Freeform  Freeform Challenge book ‘Somewhere in my world‘.  The proceeds of the book will go to Kiva.org & Mercy Corp for Haitian relief which, I’m sure you’ll agree, are 2 worthy causes.

The 2010 International Freeform Guild’s show, Somewhere in My World includes 61 freeform fiber artists from all around the globe.

Freeform Challenge 2010

It is such an honour to be included in this wonderful collaboration of Freeform Artists from around the world. None of us saw each other’s pieces until now, so it’s a delicious surprise  to see how we each interpreted the theme ‘Somewhere in My World’. A huge thank you must go the Myra Wood for her inspiration & curating this fabulous eye candy.

Please… take a look, but be warned… the inspirational content may be contagious & you’ll never be the same again……

More hyperbolics – just couldn’t help it

OK…. so call me obsessive but I just couldn’t help myself – I just had to make some more coral for the Sydney reef – this time I used ‘Fiesta Yarn’ by Arbee, a polypropylene ribbon & just love the results – However, the idea to use the ‘Fiesta Yarn’  was not mine – all credit for this great fun idea must go to Meg-an-jack – please check out her fabulous fibre art

Seeing her wonderful coral pieces reminded me that I had a whole bag of the stuff somewhere in my stash & so…. these new pieces will also be added to my contribution to the Sydney Hyperbolic Coral Reef Project
