The Big Flower Afghan – A Crochet Pattern

The Big Flower crochet pattern is one for those of you who love making rugs (afghans). The squares are largish, work up quickly & so your project grows at a satisfying rate.

& remember… you don’t have to follow my colours… work in your own favourite combinations or go through your stash & use up some of those lovely tiddly bits that aren’t enough for complete projects but you’ve never had the heart to discard…

I probably wouldn’t recommend this pattern to an absolute crochet beginner but if you have some basic crochet skills & are willing to try something a little different, I think you’re really going to enjoy this one…

This bright, cheerful BIG FLOWER crochet pattern with squares measuring approx 24 cm (9 ½”) x 24 cm (9 ½”) can be made using scrap yarn from your stash or you can create your own favourite colour combos.

Make as many squares as you need depending on your project: a little cot cover, a medium TV knee rug or a king size bedspread

  • afghan square pattern
  • joining squares together & border instructions
  • both UK & US terminology
  • clear stitch drawings & pattern diagrams (charts)

Crochet Lace motif PDF pattern for scarves, shawls, wraps, vests & tops

The Crochet Lace Motif pattern is one of many that I (hopefully) will be posting over the next few weeks as I complete them – what I like about this one in particular is that it’s a great little exercise for learning how to join motifs as you go… the pattern isn’t too complicated & the easy to follow joining instructions will have you creating in no time… You can purchase The Crochet Lace Motif pattern from here… or if you prefer, you can also go to Ravelry,  – I hope you enjoy it…

This is a lovely crochet lace motif that works up very quickly &, once mastered, is easily committed to memory – ideal for shawls, scarves & wraps but also works well for shrugs, boleros, vests & tops. Each motif can be made separately & then sewn or crocheted together… or, you can do what I do & join motifs as you go

  • The pattern includes:
  • the motif pattern & clear instructions to join as you go
  • both UK & US terminology
  • clear photos, stitch drawings & pattern diagrams (charts)

The size of your motif is determined by your choice yarn & hook – average size is approx 9 cm x 9 cm (3½” x 3½”) but will vary according to yarn/hook used –

For the wrap in the above photo I used 5 x 50 gram balls of 100 % 8 ply cotton Thorobred scheepjeswol, Granada – Hook Size: 6mm (US J)

For the wrap in the below photo I used 5 x 50 gram balls of Crystal Palace, Mini Mochi – Hook Size: 6mm (US J)

Random Crochet creates Side Show Alley (2)…

take your hook (3.50 mm US E) & with the gorgeous Mini Mochi yarn  crochet some random shaped motifs… arrange them on a template, any shape will do but, in this case I’ve chosen a triangle, then… with the beautiful  Noro King yarn, chain the pieces into shape. Presto! A beautiful shawl/wrap to delight the senses…

Of course… you can use your own choice of hook & yarns – the results will surprise you

Granny Square Glamour….

OK… so they’re not traditional granny squares but a collection of square crochet motifs created in a variety of natural, synthetic & metallic yarns & incorporated into this ‘Glam’ vest for the discerning woman who dares to be different & enjoys a striking pose…

Isn’t it amazing what can be done with a little imagination?
