The Big Flower Afghan – A Crochet Pattern

The Big Flower crochet pattern is one for those of you who love making rugs (afghans). The squares are largish, work up quickly & so your project grows at a satisfying rate.

& remember… you don’t have to follow my colours… work in your own favourite combinations or go through your stash & use up some of those lovely tiddly bits that aren’t enough for complete projects but you’ve never had the heart to discard…

I probably wouldn’t recommend this pattern to an absolute crochet beginner but if you have some basic crochet skills & are willing to try something a little different, I think you’re really going to enjoy this one…

This bright, cheerful BIG FLOWER crochet pattern with squares measuring approx 24 cm (9 ½”) x 24 cm (9 ½”) can be made using scrap yarn from your stash or you can create your own favourite colour combos.

Make as many squares as you need depending on your project: a little cot cover, a medium TV knee rug or a king size bedspread

  •  The pattern includes:
  • afghan square pattern
  • joining squares together & border instructions
  • both UK & US terminology
  • clear stitch drawings & pattern diagrams (charts)

The Big Flower Afghan Crochet Pattern can be purchased from here, or if you prefer from Ravelry, Etsy or Zibbet

The Crochet Lace Motif pattern is one of many that I (hopefully) will be posting over the next few weeks as I complete them – what I like about this one in particular is that it’s a great little exercise for learning how to join motifs as you go… the pattern isn’t too complicated & the easy to follow joining instructions will have you creating in no time… You can purchase The Crochet Lace Motif pattern from here… or if you prefer, you can also go to Ravelry,  – I hope you enjoy it…

This is a lovely crochet lace motif that works up very quickly &, once mastered, is easily committed to memory – ideal for shawls, scarves & wraps but also works well for shrugs, boleros, vests & tops. A Holiday Thank You…

It’s hard to believe that another year is coming to an end but 2012 is definitely just around the corner & galloping ahead at that…. As I look back on the year I can’t help thinking about all the wonderful people I’ve met, both in the flesh & on the net, who have supported me in my endeavours in so many ways: your questions, your compliments, your purchases, your trust & encouragement.

Ear Warmers… not quite hats…

How do you avoid that bad hat hair or, even worse,  the static that makes your hair go every-which-way & crackles & pops whenever the hat is removed? How do you keep your ears warm & cosy & keep your hair in place when the wind is howling…. &, most importantly, still look stylish?

Ear Warmers, of course.

These are a couple of freeform crochet headbands, ear warmers, or whatever you like to call them, that I created recently.

I think they’ll do the trick, don’t you?

Down but not out… just a little setback…

Hello everyone, due to some unforeseen health issues that came one after the other, it’s been quite some time since my last post – First… a dead left arm & shoulder (too much crochet, I suspect) – rest & massage took care of that. Then, I woke with a crink in the neck, which developed into a Wry Neck… totally disabling, extremely painful & requiring much physiotherapy. You would think that this is enough to force me to rest & refrain from crochet & the computer (& so called repetitive activities). But no… I had to go one step further…

While looking after my elderly neighbour’s dog, when she went into hospital for some tests, I was bitten on the right hand. Not a serious bite (I thought)… nevertheless… off to the docs, tetanus shot, antibiotic, bandages… all very dramatic… 2 days later I was rushed into hospital with excruciatingly painful Cellulitis & found myself on an IV drip for 3 days… scary stuff indeed!!

Goes to show how quickly things can change in an instant. They say things come in 3’s, Soooo… that’s definitely it… I’ve accepted the forced rest but my hooks & keyboard have been idle long enough now & I’m raring to get back into it. Besides, all those unfinished projects, that are dotting the house, are screaming to be dealt with…

And so life goes on…. Just before all this happened I wanted to post about my new little helper, a lovely, full size mannequin. I had purchased her with the intention of revamping my photos to showcase each piece to its best advantage. I did manage to get many done & posted in my Etsy & Zibbet shops – I wonder, did anyone notice the gallery updates?

Isn’t she gorgeous? If you have a moment, I’d really love your feedback… thank you everyone for your ongoing support… It’s good to be back.
