100 Beanie Drive… can you help?

Jess Van Den of Epheriell Designs has put out a call to all her crafty friends for help in her 100 Beanie Charity Drive

Jess’s goal is: to gather together 100 Beanies during July that I can donate to that box in the Day Oncology Unit. In fact – I’d love to have to buy them a bigger box to fit everything I bring in!! And you know what? Why not shoot for 100 scarves and 100 pairs of mittens, too?
I’d love it if you could help me give cancer patients warm heads and warm hearts this winter.

Here’s the information if you would like to help with this worthy project – you will find some crochet & knit patterns to help you get started & guidelines for materials to use. Ravelry fans can join in here too.

The call is for boy colours as, apparently, men & boys are the most in need but all crochet or knitted beanies, scarves & mittens will be most appreciated – so why not give it a go….

These are a couple I whipped up in no time at all & will be in the post tomorrow…

My 2012 Alice Springs Beanie Festival Entries…

Life has been rather hectic these past few weeks so I’m a bit late posting about my entries for the 2012 Alice Springs Beanie Festival – This year I decided to do something different & made a felted beanie & a tea cosy, packaged & shipped to Alice Springs,  all in good time, with the intention of posting a little write up but somehow never getting around to it…

Well, this morning, when I checked out to see how the festival was going, to my utter surprise & delight I found that my Fossils & Limestone felted beanie entry has won the ‘Ashfords Prize for the Best Hand-felted Beanie’…. Wow.. I wasn’t expecting that…

Thank you to all the judges & festival organisers…

& congratulations to all the winners & special mentioned in each category – here’s a link to the results, hopefully there will be photos soon

Freeform Crochet Jester Hat Beanie…

Hooray!!! I finished this freeform jester hat today…

…it’s taken a bit of time but I’m really happy that I persevered, stuck to the task at hand &, didn’t let it become another UFO project.

Yes, I must confess, I do have a few of those; projects that begin with great enthusiasm but somehow get put aside for one reason or another: interest wanes, loss of ideas or simply because everyday life gets in the way & I can’t seem to get back to them.

For this Freeform Crochet Jester Hat Beanie I worked my scrumples around a 28 cm (11”) wide x 21.5 cm (8 ½”) high rectangle template, crab stitched the top edge together, added hooded tassels to the peaks & also tidied the bottom edge with crab stitch… I’m so ‘in love’ with this colour mix at the moment – I hope you like it too…

Freestyle Knit, Freeform Crochet scarf, shawl, wrap

Just finished this freestyle knit, freeform crochet scarf, shawl, wrap.

I’ve named this piece ‘Creme de Menthe’ for it’s sweet peppermint, turquoise & beige shades & gorgeous, spicy pizzaz – finding the right colours for the freeform motifs was a bit of a challenge but I think they work well & the chunky glass & tiny metallic beads add  that something extra

I’m very pleased with the result…..
