2019 Maleny Knitfest Post-Op

This time last week I was madly packing for the Maleny Knitest; fretting about not forgetting anything &, hoping upon hope, that the wet & windy weather would clear & be kind for the weekend ahead.

Fortunately, I didn’t forget a thing. Sadly, the rain persisted for most of the 2 days. However, this didn’t deter the thousands of visitors that came through the doors. So, a big Thank You to everyone, from near & far, who braved the elements;  & to everyone who came & said hello. It was lovely catching with old friends & meeting so many new ladies & gents.

Maleny Knitfest is getting bigger each year confirming that all the hard work the organisers & volunteers put in is worth their ongoing effort.

There were lots of new trade stalls with tempting yarns & fibres & I must admit I couldn’t resist bringing home bundles of lovely yarns & fibres to play with.

Another big Thank You to all the ladies who attended my 6 flowers workshop. I trust you all enjoyed yourselves & that I inspired & increased your crochet repertoire somewhat.

The last Thank You must go to the lovely Robyn Bailey, my trusty trade stall off-sider, I say it, again & again; I couldn’t have done it without you… You’re a Gem!!!

Congratulations to Deb Niotaris & Jill Henderson, the raffle winners, of the 2 Crochet books I donated I hope the books give each of you many hours of happy crochet time.

The competitions had great support this year & were fabulous. The theme ‘Australiana’ View the Tree entries here  & the winners of the Best Beanie, Tea Cosy, Scarf & socks here  & you can checkout more Knitfest action on facebook here

Finally, the following are my Knitfest competition entries.

So, that’s about it for Knitfest 2019. Hope to see you all next year, cheers Renate

The following is quoted from the knitfest site

“Knitfest 2017 is an exciting weekend Yarn & Fibre Arts Festival held on 8th and 9th July, 2017, celebrating winter arts and crafts, embracing the whole community of Maleny. We will be yarnbombing and decorating the main street of Maleny which will come alive with yarnbombing, workshops, Guest Speakers, music and craft markets. It is a magical celebration for families and a time for young and old to discover new skills, talents and creativity with the use of yarns including knitting, crochet, basket weaving, spinning and weaving, felting and lots more. Get involved and join one of the many workshops. The town will literally be wrapped in art, as 7 high sculptures made from fibre decorate our street!

The town will feature competitions for community groups, art associations and skilled artisans as they decorate posts and trees in our beautiful streetscapes with handmade art installations made of yarn and fibre. There’s prize money too!  There is also several competitions for the Best Beanie, Scarf, Shawl/socks, Tea Cosy etc. Ride the Mystic bus as it travels up and down the Festival Precinct and out to the best tourist locations Maleny has to offer. It’s yarnbombed of course.

We encourage people to bring their knitting needles, crochet hooks and basket weaving skills for random acts of art in the street with the many demonstrations and art involvement in our cafes and Trade stalls. We want to expose the many Fibre artists, arts and crafts groups, knitting for causes groups, artisan groups and craft suppliers in a fun filled family weekend.

The theme for this year is “Under the Sea”.

We will celebrate all that is winter on the mountain.

Knitfest is a not For Profit Community Group run by volunteers. We rely on our wonderful sponsors and Community Grants for funding each year. The Knitfest Yarnbombing Team meet each Tues at 10am – 12pm at ‘The Garden’, 34 Mountain View Rd, Maleny to work on this year’s projects to decorate the town during the event. To sponsor the event, donate yarn or knitted/crocheted  pieces, please contact knitfest@hotmail.com

Knitfest… the celebrations are over but the buzz goes on…

The 2016 Maleny Knitfest is now done & dusted… check out some pics here… How wonderful to have so many local, talented artists coming together to share their expertise with workshops & demonstrations in all things fibre. Being the first one of its kind there were quite a few hiccups but I’m sure everyone learnt a lot & all the wrinkles will be ironed out for next time… The town looked fabulous yarn bombed from top to toe. Congratulations to all the volunteers & organisers who worked tirelessly to get it all done.  I saw so many people taking photos in front of trees, cows &, of course, the controversial cannon… A talking point for some time, I’m sure.

On behalf of Lynne Hall & myself, I’d like to thank all the ladies who attended our ‘Scrumpling Workshop’. A lovely group who weren’t afraid to jump in & have a go… I hope you’re all inspired & overflowing with creative juices…

A big thank you also to everyone who participated in my ’10 Novelty Stitch Sampler’… I trust you all had a great time, leant some new interesting stitches & came away enthused to create your own projects…

&… A small drum roll please…I’m particularly honoured & proud to have won 1st  & 2nd prize in the Tea Cosy competition & 2nd prize in the Scarf Competition.
