And so to the Maleny Knitfest. The weather was perfect & people came from far & wide. It’s getting bigger each year which the organisers must be thrilled about. The assortment of trade stalls selling beautiful yarns & fibres were buzzing with customers & workshops were overflowing with happy participants learning new & exciting skills. A big thank you to all the ladies who attended my 2 workshops. I hope I inspired & increased your crochet repertoire… Another huge thank you goes  to Robyn Bailey, my trade stall off-sider, I always say it & I’ll say it again… I couldn’t have done it without you… You are a champion!!!

Knitfest competitions entries were down from last year, nevertheless some awesome pieces were on display… Tea cosy prizes were won by Jivan Leela,  sorry I don’t have photos or a link. Caroline Payne won 1st prize for character beanie & 2nd for shawl… Megan Jack won 1st prize for beanie… These 2 girls ripped it this weekend, I must ask them what’s in their water…

Beanies… Plain & Simple….

chunky purple flowerWell… not quite… the simple styled beanie hat with a little embellishing & tweaking can become a flattering winter accessory that doesn’t date too quickly over time…

I’ve been rather busy lately, with local displays, markets & classes, so elaborate projects have been put on the back burner for a while or, at least,  until I have a clearer creative head space… but that’s not to say I’ve had idle hands… hence, this collection of Beanie Hats…

With some, I’ve experimented with large hooks & double threads of chunky yarn & with others I’ve used double threads of sock yarn. I hope this beanie hat collection gives you some new ideas for the beanie that is more than just plain & simple… enjoy!

Alice Springs Beanie Festival 2015….

Fire & Flood felted beanieHi everyone, it’s been quite a while since my last post… time is just flying…

So, it’s that time of year again… The Alice Springs Beanie Festival… & all the excitement that it generates across Australia… I did find the theme ‘Opposites Attract’ a bit challenging this year but, as it so often happens, in a quiet moment the ideas slowly emerged… These are my 2 entries that I know have safely arrived in Alice Springs, thanks to Aussie Post’s tracking system…

I’d like to wish all contestants much success &, all those lucky enough to be at the festival, a fabulous time…

White Felt Cloche Hat…

white-felt-1I don’t do a great amount of felting but, from time to time, I get a creative nudge & give it another go.. As a novice  felter the results are often unpredictable… sometimes disappointing… always a learning curve… & sometimes, as in this  lovely white felt cloche hat, super delightful…

The cloche hat was crocheted in 100% pure Australian wool & felted in a washing machine then embellished with a touch of beige & brown rovings that have been needle felted onto the white base. The decorative knotted braid was hand felted from 100% pure Australian fleece & attached to the hat.

Purple, Magenta Freeform Beanie, Hat, Slouchy…

It seems like it’s been quite a while since I’ve made a freeform crochet beanie… here’s one I finished recently that’s been sitting on my mannequin just waiting to be photographed…

The band was crocheted in a gorgeous Italian yarn (75% acrylic, 15% wool, 10% viscose) & is wonderfully soft… the crown is a mixture of spirals, bullions & assorted freeform fancies created in an assortment of yarns from natural to synthetic… don’t you just love the purple, magenta colours… beautiful yarn & colours to work with…
